KUALA LUMPUR: Police have advised motorists to ignore postings on blogs and Facebook that claim to have details of speed trap locations in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
In a Facebook posting, police said postings of locations for speed traps and closed-circuit television cameras were not true because police do not have permanent locations for speed traps or cameras.
"We urge motorists to ignore the postings on blogs or Facebook," said a police statement on Facebook.
The postings had been uploaded two days before Op Selamat was launched by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar on Aug 10.
Police said the postings on Facebook titled "Speed Trap Locations in conjunction with Aidilfitri 2012 PLUS" claimed police had set up speed traps at 40 locations along the North-South Expressway, New Klang Valley Expressway, ELITE Highway and Kesas Highway.
Police also said Op Selamat, which focused on safety on roads and property of house owners who returned to their respective villages during the Hari Raya, had shown positive results.
Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order director Datuk Salleh Mat Rashid said based on statistics from last year, there was a drop in the number of cases.
Salleh said this after a gotong-royong session to cook lemang, ketupat, rendang and dodol, all traditional delicacies served during Hari Raya, at Markas Bridged Tengah Pasukan Gerakan Am here yesterday. Bernama
