LOTS OF LUCK: IT coordinator gets grand prize in Life & Times dream holiday contest
KUALA LUMPUR: IT was a dream come true for a 57-year-old information technology coordinator when she won an all-paid holiday for two to Auckland, New Zealand.
Gan Kam Yew was just trying her luck, and her effort of collecting five weekly entries, answering all the questions correctly and providing a creative slogan paid off when she was announced the grand prize winner of the "Life & Times dream holiday to New Zealand contest".
"New Zealand is a beautiful place with picturesque scenery and good weather. So, of course, I am thrilled and excited to plan my journey with my loved ones."
She would take the opportunity to extend her stay for at least two weeks to enjoy fully her holiday with her husband, Ray Lim Hing Naing, 60, who also attended the prize-giving ceremony here yesterday.
Gan walked away with a four-night North Island tour package, which included return tickets to Auckland courtesy of Malaysia Airlines, four days of self-driving via auto-vehicle rental, a Maori show and harbour cruise.
The prize was jointly organised and sponsored by Sri Sutra Travel Sdn Bhd, Auckland International Airport and Tourism New Zealand.
New Straits Times managing editor Datuk Nuraina Samad said the contest, which ran for more than five weeks from July 5 to Aug 2 in the Travel section of Life & Times, proved to be successful. It attracted more than 1,000 entries.
"No doubt that New Zealand is a a country which is endowed with much natural beauty, and with that many entries we are getting, we knew that our readers had a strong desire to win this trip.
"We are very thankful to all the sponsors for their generosity that enabled NST to offer our readers this attractive prize of holidaying in New Zealand."
Ten other consolation prize winners received exclusive New Zealand T-shirts worth RM76 each.
