COVETED NUMBERS: List of successful bidders on RTD website
KUMAR KUALA LUMPUR: THE list of 4,908 successful bidders for the vehicle registration number plate for the WWW series was released yesterday, with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Sultan of Johor among them.
Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah obtained the WWW 5 registration number plate and Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar the much coveted WWW 1.
The sultan paid RM520,000 for the number. This is the highest ever paid for a single number, beating the previous record for MCA 1 which was sold for RM300,100 two years ago.
Sultan Ibrahim is known for his love of sports cars and high-powered motorcycles. He already owns several other coveted numbers including JJJ 1, JJ 1 and JJ 2 for cars driven by him and members of the royal family.
Other much sought after numbers were WWW 3 secured by One Power International Sdn Bhd at RM360,000, WWW 888 by Tropicana Golf and Country Resort for RM165,000 and WWW 222 and WWW 333 both by Titan Pristine Sdn Bhd.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai also won his bid placed for WWW 15 at RM24,200.
Another fan of the number five was Seng Group of Companies managing director Datuk Dr Lim Chin Fui who successfully obtained WWW 55 and WWW 555.
Lim said he had submitted four entries for 1, 5, 55 and 555.
"In the Hokkien dialect, these numbers mean 'I have it already' which ensures that whatever it may be, it will be in my possession."
Lim said the registration numbers would be used under his father, the late Datuk Lim Lee Seng's charity foundation.
Another successful bidder was Prima Reach Sdn Bhd director Andy Teo who won WWW 818 for RM15,000.
"I was born on Aug 18 and the number has since been considered my lucky number."
The RTD said the remaining 5,091 numbers from the series would be considered as running numbers and would be open for registration on June 15.
According to the RTD website, the minimum bid for a golden number is set at RM10,000 each, while the minimum for an interesting number was RM2,000 each, a popular number at RM300 each and a running number at RM200 each.
Golden numbers are single digits until the number 10. Some of the interesting numbers were 333, 555, 8888, while popular numbers were 2020 and 8383.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said the successful bidders could obtain their letters by post or collect them personally at the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory office in Wangsa Maju.
For successful bidders, the balance of the bid should be paid up within one month from the date of the letter, failing which the registration number may be withdrawn, while deposits will be returned to the unsuccessful bidders.
Good Fengshui founder and chief researcher Kenny Hoo said it was generally accepted that any number repeated three times provided strength and greater emphasis of its meaning.
"For example, the numbers 222 and 333 means 'easy, easy, easy' and 'grow, grow, grow' in the Cantonese dialect.
"Although, the number 888 means 'prosperity, prosperity, prosperity', it carries a stronger emphasis than 8888 because of the general repetitive method of three times."
The full list of successful bidders is available on the RTD website at www.jpj.gov.my.
