ANGUISH: Despite having sole custody, woman has lost contact with boy after death of estranged hubby
TELUK INTAN: A 23-YEAR-OLD mother is pleading for the return of her 2-year-old son with whom she has had no contact for the past six months.
This happened after the death of her estranged husband last month.
Rasyidah Radzi, who was in the midst of divorce proceedings with her late husband, Alif Ramadhan Devar, 37, had been sharing custody of their son, Syazmil Daniel Thever Alif Ramadhan.
Alif Ramadhan died of pulmonary tuberculosis at Sungai Buloh Hospital on July 16 and Rasyidah now does not know where her son is.
"I am worried about my child's wellbeing as I have not heard any news about him for the past six months. It has been a torture not to have him by my side for Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year," she said yesterday.
Rasyidah said she did not know whether her son had been abducted or was being concealed by her husband's family members.
"I have made a police report on my missing son. I am desperate to reunite with my only child and begging for mercy from those who have taken him."
The factory worker, who is living with her parents in Batak Rabit here, said she was last informed by her late husband's colleague that her son was in the care of her mother-in-law.
"But when I went to her house in Jalan Changkat Jong here, she had disappeared. It is distressing not being able to know the condition of my son for more than a month since my husband died."
She added that she obtained an order from the Ipoh Syariah High Court on Aug 8 for the sole custody of her son.
Hilir Perak police chief Assistant Commissioner Goh Kok Liang said police were helping to locate the boy.
"We have received the report made by the boy's mother. Police will assist to locate and return the boy back to her as she has a court order for sole custody."
Goh said it could be considered contempt of court if the boy was being concealed by relatives. He urged those with information to contact the Hilir Perak police headquarters at 05-629 9222.
