KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak has confirmed his attendance at the Petronas Malaysian Journalism Night 2012.

His principal private secretary, Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Kasim, said the prime minister had indicated his intention to attend the event, organised by the Malaysian Press Institute, on March 30.

The event is held to honour the best Malaysian journalism has to offer every year. This year's event will be held at the Royale Chulan Hotel.

This would be the second time Najib will attend the Malaysian Journalism Night. The first was on April 6, 2009, just three days after being sworn in as prime minister.

There will be 12 categories of prizes, each worth RM15,000, at this year's event. These include Best News Reporting, Best Photo Journalism, Best News Coverage and Best Documentary Video.

A panel of judges will also choose the nation's best journalist and honour him or her with the Kajai Award, which carries a prize of RM30,000 and a 50g gold coin.
