'Ombak Rindu' stamps for sale

MAIDEN ATTEMPT: First local movie to get limited edition albums

OMBAK Rindu, the highest-grossing Malay love story ever is set to be immortalised with a limited edition Setemku album and folder set  available from today.   It is the first local movie to appear on Malaysian stamps.

Pos Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Khalid Abdol Rahman said the album and folder set could be part of a fan's collection to relive the memories of the movie.

"The versatility of Setemku makes it possible for us to capture the beautiful scenes and iconic characters from Ombak Rindu and preserve them in the special album," he said at the launch yesterday.

He said Pos Malaysia was looking forward to collaborating with other players in the Malaysian film industry to produce other Setemku products.

"If this collaboration is well received, we will surely venture into television dramas and even theatre."

Khalid said stamps are a unique medium to promote films and other products and can be used as a good branding tool.

He said the aim is to encourage people to start collecting stamps again as the hobby seemed to have lost its feel over the years.

Khalid said the movie was chosen because of the large fan base and how well it did at the box office.

"This is the first local movie that has made it on stamps but it won't be the last," he said, adding that other films may have a chance as Pos Malaysia comes up with new stamps every year.

Ombak Rindu producer Sharad Sharan said when Pos Malaysia approached them, they were curious as to the main purpose of the venture.

"When told Pos Malaysia wanted children to start collecting stamps, we agreed. We believe Ombak Rindu can be that catalyst."

The Ombak Rindu Setemku album contains six sheets of 48 personalised stamps as well as 24 colour pages featuring different scenes from the movie. Also included in the album is a DVD of the movie and photographs.

Pos Malaysia also produced a special set of Ombak Rindu Setemku folder that contains two sheets of 16 personalised stamps, one specially designed envelope and seven postcards with pre-printed stamps.

The products can be purchased at 14 major Pos Malaysia outlets in the country or online at from today.

The Ombak Rindu Setemku album is priced at RM199 while the Ombak Rindu Setemku Folder is priced at RM59.90.
