KUALA LUMPUR: The booking numbers for Proton Holding's Bhd's first global car, called Preve, reached 1,600 units as of 5pm yesterday.

Head of Group Communications Haryani Mohd Fadzil said customers would have to wait about one to two months from the booking date of the new model, which was launched on Monday, before receiving their car.

In Puchong, Trisilco Motors Sdn Bhd general manager Mohd Zawawi Zukfily said there was an overwhelming response for the new model at its outlet.

"The response for the (Proton) Preve has been marvellous," he said, adding that from 10am onwards there had been a huge number of walk-in customers.

As of 4pm yesterday, Trisilco Motors had received five bookings on the newly launched Proton model, with 15 customers having taken the car out for a test-drive.

Zawawi added that there would be an event held during the coming weekend, on April 21 and 22, in conjunction with the launch of the Proton Preve.

"There will be food, karaoke sessions and door gifts for customers," he said.

In Bandar Sunway, Esteem Move Sdn Bhd prepared lunch for customers interested in the Preve.

Administrative assistant Farah Asykin said although the outlet had more than 100 walk-in customers and 50 of them took the car for a test-drive, the number of bookings made on the car was under 10.

"We expect more customers to turn up later in the evening and at night," she added.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said on Monday that the launch of Preve was set to make history as it met the requirements of global customers and would bring Jalur Gemilang to international heights.

All three variants of the Preve Executive, Executive CVT and Premium, priced between RM59,990 and RM72,990 come with a five-year or 150,000km warranty, whichever comes first.

The model is available in six colours: Blue Lagoon, Fire Red, Tranquility Black, Solid White, Genetic Silver and Elegant Brown.
