AUSPICIOUS DATE: Hindu couples believe their Aug 19 newborns will bring wealth to the family
IPOH: THE Hindu astrology belief that children born on Aug 19 will bring prosperity to the family saw one mother opting to give birth on Sunday.
Teacher K. Thilagavathy decided to go under the knife to deliver her second child.
The 3.2kg baby girl, named Meenakshy, was born on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri at Pantai Hospital, here, at 8.45am.
Thilagavathy's husband, A. Manimaran, 32, said they decided to have the baby on the auspicious day after it was revealed that babies born on this day would bring prosperity to themselves and also the family.
"It is a good day to have babies," said Manimaran, a teacher at SJK (T) Slim River.
He said even the baby's name was named after a Hindu goddess.
The couple have a 3-year-old girl named Theetiyalakshmy.
At the same hospital, housewife M. Amutah was not due to deliver her baby until Aug 26 but decided to welcome her baby girl earlier following her doctor's advice.
Her husband, lorry driver S. Murugan, said when the doctor gave his wife the date to deliver the baby girl, they were not aware it was during the Raya celebrations.
"We are happy to welcome our second child," he said, adding that their first child was a boy, who turns 2 in October.
The yet-to-be-named baby girl, who weighs 2.3kg, was delivered via Caesarian section at 10am.
