PM: Six high-impact programmes to boost SMEs

PUTRAJAYA: The Prime Minister has announced six high impact programmes that will accelerate growth of small medium enterprises, including increasing its contribution towards the gross domestic product.

The six programmes are namely an SME Investment Programme, Catalyst Programme, Inclusive Innovation, Going Export Programme, Technology Commercialisation Platform and integration of registration and licensing of business establishment.

Apart from increasing the contribution to the GDP to 41 per cent by 2020 from last year's 32 per cent, the high impact programmes aims to increase employment share to 62 per cent from the current 59 per cent.

Export share from the SMEs is also expected to rise to 25 per cent from 19 per cent.

"SMEs play an important role in the country's economic development and we need to take bold and positive steps to further develop the industry," Datuk Seri Najib Razak said after charing the 12th National SME Development Council  meeting , here, today.
