CLASSIFIED: Cops to quiz news portals, hunt source
KUALA LUMPUR: A FEDERAL police task force has been formed to probe the leak of classified documents relating to the Ampang Light Rail Transit extension project which appeared on at least two news portals in the past week.
The task force, headed by Federal Criminal Investigation Department deputy director Datuk Hadi Ho Abdullah, will be investigating the case under the Official Secrets Act.
CID director Datuk Seri Bakri Zinin said a police report was lodged by a Finance Ministry official on Monday over the leak. He declined to reveal what they were.
Eight companies had made bids for the RM960 million project.
"This is a serious issue as it involved highly sensitive documents not meant to be made public," he said at Bukit Aman here yesterday.
"We will be recording statements from the news portals which highlighted information obtained from the classified documents as well as track down those responsible for the leak."
It was reported in several news portals that the speculated winner of the Ampang LRT system works, the George Kent consortium, was one of three bidders which had failed both the technical and commercial evaluation for the project.
PKR officials have shown copies of official documents to the media, showing that the Finance Ministry's acquisition committee, had decided to award the contract to Balfour Bratty Invensys Consortium.
