HONOURED: 867 to get awards in conjunction with 84th birthday of sultan of Perak

IPOH: RAJA Zarith Sofia Sultan Idris Shah, consort of the Sultan of Johor, heads the list of 867 recipients of awards to be given in conjunction with the 84th birthday of Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah, which fell on April 19.

Raja Zarith Sofia will receive the Darjah Kerabat Diraja Yang Amat Dihormati at the investiture in Balairong Seri, Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar today.

Sultan Azlan Shah's birthday ceremony and other activities were postponed as a mark of respect following the death of his son, Datuk Seri Raja Ashman Shah, on March 30.

Chief Justice Tan Sri Arifin Zakaria is the sole recipient of the Darjah Seri Paduka Cura Si Manja Kini (SPCM), which carries the title Datuk Seri.

The eight recipients of the Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Perak (SPMP), which also carries the title Datuk Seri, are Works Minister Datuk Seri Shaziman Abu Mansor, Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin, Malaysian-born international star Datuk Michelle Yeoh and Comptroller of the Royal Household of Perak Datuk Samsul Baharin @ Mohd Ropaa Hassan.

The other recipients are National Sports Council director-general Datuk Che Zolkples Embong, Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera chief executive Tan Sri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin, vice-president of Asian Hockey Federation and Thailand Hockey Association president Chaiyapak Siriwat and Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd executive chairman Tan Sri Mohamed Hashim Ahmad Makaruddin.

Three people will receive the Darjah Seri Panglima Taming Sari (SPTS) which carries the title Datuk Seri Panglima. They are Army chief General Datuk Zulkifli Zainal Abidin, Navy deputy chief Vice-Admiral Datuk Mohamed Nordin Ali and Datuk Mohamed Fuzi Harun.

The sole recipient of Darjah Datuk Paduka Cura Si Manja Kini (DPCM), which carries the title Datuk, is Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies' Datuk Dr Muhammad Afifi Al-Akiti.

There are 48 recipients of the Darjah Datuk Paduka Mahkota Perak (DPMP) which carries the title Datuk. Among them are political secretary to the Perak menteri besar, Datuk Ahmad Shalimin Ahmad Shaffie, political secretary to the education minister, Mohd Nardin Awang, Orang Besar Jajahan Kerian Toh Muda Orang Kaya-Kaya Laksamana Raja Mahkota Meor Redwan Mahayudin and Orang Besar Jajahan Hulu Perak Toh Seri Bijaya Lt-Kol (R) Shaharudin Nazari.

The others include state MCA organising secretary Hing Thian Kiak, Tapah MIC division chief Dr M. Malasingam, Teluk Intan Umno division Wanita chief Siti Zainun Mansur and Berita Harian group editor Datuk Mior Kamarulbaid Mior Shahid.

There are seven recipients of the Darjah Datuk Pahlawan Taming Sari (DPTS), which carries the title Datuk Pahlawan. Among them are Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan, Sabah police commissioner Datuk Hamzah Taib and Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Zulkifli Hassan.

Besides the 69 recipients of the various titles today, the remaining recipients will receive their awards and medals on Saturday and June 9.

Among the media representatives who will receive the Darjah Ahli Mahkota Perak (AMP) is New Straits Times Perak bureau journalist, P. Chandra Sagaran.

Malaysia's first women soccer referee, Salasiah Din, will receive the Darjah Paduka Mahkota Perak (PMP).
