LONGSTANDING ISSUE: Kelantan govt has failed to resolve water supply problems, says Umno leader
TANAH MERAH: AS a measure to address water shortage, residents here have opted to install tube wells on their premises, said Tanah Merah Umno division chief Datuk Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz.
"We in Tanah Merah are also facing water shortage, like a number of other districts in Kelantan. However, to overcome the problem, the majority of us, including myself, have opted to use tube wells."
Speaking to reporters after presenting zakat (tithes) and Hari Raya Aidilfitri donations to the needy, Ikmal said the people of Kelantan had a right to clean water supply even though most of them had come out with their own ideas on how to solve the problem, including by setting up tube wells.
A tube well is a type of water well in which a long wide stainless steel tube or pipe is bored into an underground aquifer.
The lower end is fitted with a strainer and a pump at the top draws water for irrigation.
"Water is a basic necessity needed for humans.
"However, the Pas-led government, which has been ruling Kelantan for more than 20 years, seems to have ignored and failed to solve the problem.
"They are the ones responsible and must find a way to settle not only the water problem affecting the public but also those involving other public facilities, such as electricity."
Ikmal said unlike the state government which had failed to solve the problem, Tanah Merah Umno would do whatever was necessary to help the people. He also urged the people to give a chance to Umno and Barisan Nasional in the next general election because only BN could take care of their welfare.
"We promise to bring in various transformation programmes introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak that will benefit the folk here."
