ALL POWERFUL:Airmen take three individual awards for men

THE Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) won the men's 50-overs and sixes titles at the Armed Forces tri-services cricket championships for the eighth consecutive year.

The RMAF also swept the three individual awards for men in the three-day tournament held at the Selangor Turf Club in Sungai Besi, recently.

Leading Aircraftsman (LAC) Mohd Shukri Abdul Rahim was adjudged the best bowler and LAC Mohd Anwar Arudin the best batsman, while Aircraftsman (AC) Syazrul Izat Idrus was named player of the tournament.

The Royal Malaysian Navy, however, bagged the women's T20 title after overcoming the air force and army teams.

Prizes were presented by Brig Gen (rtd) Datuk Soon Lian Cheng.

Present were Armed Forces cricket chairman Lt Col Dianand G.A. Sadris, tournament organising and RMAF cricket chairman Major Keshvinder Singh Randhava, Royal Malaysian Navy cricket chairman Cdr Roslan Ismail, RMAF cricket secretary Major Hardeep Singh Meha, and national umpires Col (rtd) Dr Paleswaran Rajah and Tan Kim Heng.

Meanwhile, Kim Heng, who is a national selector, named seven RMAF cricketers to represent Malaysia in the ICC World Cricket League Division 4 to be played in Kuala Lumpur on Sept 3-10.

The national team are scheduled to tour Sri Lanka as part of the preparations.

The seven airmen selected are Flight Sgt Kalidas Viswanadan as an umpire, and players LAC Mohd Ariffin Ramly, LAC Mohd Anwar Arudin and AC Mohd Suharril Fetri Shuib as batsmen, and LAC Mohd Shukri Abdul Rahim, AC Abdul Rashid Bin Ahad and AC Mohd Syazrul Izat Idrus as bowlers.
