KENINGAU: Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan hopes Sabah would be given a bigger allocation for rural infrastructure development when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announces the 2013 Budget on Sept 28.

Pairin said many rural areas needed financial assistance to enhance infrastructure facilities as well as provide better roads to ease the transport woes experienced by the people in the interior areas and farmers.

"Attention must be given to those who are involved in agriculture and farming activities so that they will be able to increase their income by 2020," Pairin, who is also state infrastructure development minister, said at the Keningau parliamentary Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house here yesterday.

He said the Federal Government had always given priority to rural development, in line with the 1Malaysia concept of "People First, Performance Now".

"The people must also value the contributions from the government and be ready to assist in the development process," he said. Bernama
