KOTA KINABALU: Sartini Sudir from Tawau became the first female to win the Best Rider award in Pizza Hut's National Champs Challenge 2012.

The 22-year-old with her teammates, Abdul Rahmad and Albinhar Mohd Fikal, won this category beating seven other teams during the competition held at Kemuning, Shah Alam recently.

Surprisingly, prior to the competition, this lass did not have any experience making deliveries from the Pizza Hut outlet at Taman Fajar, Tawau, which she works at.

Met during the KFC and Pizza Hut Sabah appreciation dinner on Thursday, Sartini said being a girl, she did not know much about taking care and maintaining a motorcycle.

"I joined Pizza Hut in June 2010 and last year, I joined the Sabah team to the national challenge as a reserve player. It was hard work and dedication which helped our team to win."

To make up for what she lacks, Sartini said she prepared herself and trained for two months under the guidance of her coach.

The rider challenge involves getting the order and sending them out, including preparing the pizza.

The orders have to be sent out within three minutes to the designated locations during the challenge, and their team managed to do it within the time frame.

Besides this category, the Sabah Pizza Hut nine-person team won six other awards, including best overall champion.

For the KFC National Champs Challenge 2012 held simultaneously, the team from Sabah won six awards including best overall champion, beating 10 other teams.
