BEST BIRTHDAY GIFT: Khazanah director beats 160 others

LONDON: KHAZANAH Nasional Berhad scholar Suria Ab Rahman, who did her MBA programme at the Judge Business School,  University of Cambridge,  went on stage to receive her best birthday present.

The director in the managing director's office, who turned 39 on Friday, graduated as the best student out of 160 who came from all over the world to attend the MBA programme.

Suria, who received a Khazanah scholarship to do the one-year MBA programme at the prestigious school, said it was all so unexpected, but attributed her success to the exposure and interaction with other students.

"You learn so much more during discus sions and interactions with your cohorts.

"The support that we gave one another was also valuable," she said, adding that the level of working experience one has before embarking on the programme helped tremendously.

The mother of three, who did her Finance and Accounting degree at the London School of Economics and graduated in 1996, worked as head in risk management at Khazanah, before moving on to operations.

Suria also trained as a chartered accountant with KPMG and worked at their London office for nine and a half years.

It was a wet day on the grounds of the Senate House at the University of Cambridge where the graduation ceremony took place but Suria later had a wonderful reunion with her fellow MBA classmates of 2010 from Europe, India, Singapore and the Philippines.

Khazanah scholar Suria Ab Rahman topped her MBA class at Judge Business School, Cambridge University.
