WOMEN'S AWARDS SHOW: Singer beats nine other strong contenders for 'Bella On-Stage Award'
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's sweetheart Datuk Siti Nurhaliza won the hearts of Malaysians once again when she took home the "Bella On-Stage Award" at the country's first ever women's awards show -- Bella Awards -- last night.
With the support of her strong fan base, Siti beat nine other strong contenders, including Datuk Sheila Majid, Ning Baizura, Anita Sarawak and Jaclyn Victor under this category that celebrates women who have made tremendous achievement on stage in the field of music and performing arts.
Philanthropist Datuk Ruby Khong was conferred the "Bella Heart Award" and the highlight of the night -- "The Bella Award".
Khong, who is the president of Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK), was among the women celebrated and honoured at the awards show held in conjunction with International Women's Day.
Radio announcer Fara Fauzana, who has won several other awards under the radio category, clinched the coveted "Bella Radio Award".
Having to compete with some of the country's top actresses, including Maya Karin, Lisa Surihani and Nur Fazura, Debbie Goh was the surprise winner of the "Bella On-screen Award".
The Bella Awards also saw other familiar names, including producer and director Low Ngai Yuen and Gillian Hung taking home the "Bella Creative Award" and "Bella Style Award".
The event also recognised women in business, sports as well as health and beauty.
Datuk Rosaline Ganendra was awarded the "Bella Business Award" for her outstanding contributions to women in business by raising the standing of women in the business arena, and making them strive to achieve their true potential.
Dr Premitha Damodaran, who believes in empowering women and sharing her personal professional knowledge on women's health through talks, presentations, forums, and media platforms, was recognised for her good work through the "Bella Beautiful Award" that celebrates women who have made an impact in the health and wellness scene.
Under the sport category, the Malaysian diver who competed in the women's synchronised 3m springboard at the 2012 London Olympics, Cheong Jun Hoong, was awarded the "Bella Sports Award".
The ceremony also recognised men for their contributions, with Datuk Jimmy Choo being conferred the "Bella Mars Award".
Themed "She Sparkles", the audience was entertained by international superstars such as Ronan Keating, Gary Chaw, Rossa, Marcell and Maliq & D'Essentials.
Local artistes Mizz Nina, Joe Flizzow, Darren Ashley and The Impatient Sisters also heated up the stage with their performances.
There was also a special fashion showcase featuring renowned fashion designer Datuk Radzuan Radziwill and up-and-coming designer Fizi Woo.
