BAU: With talks of election heavy in the air, the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party' s (SPDP) celebration for the upcoming Gawai Dayak harvest festival will be infused with politics.
The party, the state Barisan Nasional's smallest coalition member, has organised pre-Gawai gatherings next week with the "Perhimpuan Seribu Belia" (Gathering of a thousand youths) in the rural town of Saratok on April 21.
The event is being organised by its women, puteri, putera wings and Resdemop (SPDP Mambong Recreation Club).
SPDP Puteri chief Barbara Mawan said its wing would organise another pre-Gawai gathering in Miri on April 29 and in Kuching on May 25.
She said 700 members and supporters were expected to attend these events.
Barbara said the festival, which is celebrated yearly in June, would be a good platform for them to win back the support in its troubled Mas Gading parliamentary seat.
The party sacked its president and Mas Gading member of parliament Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe and its former senior vice-president and Tasik Biru state assemblyman Datuk Peter Nansian for working against the party.
