AN HONOUR: Prime minister and chief minister to take bus to launch site

MALACCA: JUAKHIR Lip, 52, is thrilled that he will  drive  the Panorama Melaka bus that will ferry Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Saturday.

"I just cannot believe this news. It is an honour for me."

Juakhir, when met at Melaka Sentral Terminal yesterday, said he had been a bus driver for four years after retiring from the Armed Forces.

"I was delighted when told by the management of Panorama Melaka Sdn Bhd (PMSB) that I had been chosen to drive the prime minister from Melaka Sentral to the site where the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) and Jelajah Janji Ditepati (JJD) will be launched.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to meet the prime minister."

He said it would be an unforgettable experience for him. "I'll make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime chance."

He said he hoped to get a picture with Najib.

During Najib's half-day visit to Malacca, he will drop by the Melaka Sentral market for breakfast with the public. Later, he will take a Panorama Melaka bus to the UTC and JJD launch site.

PMSB manager Siti Norfaizah Mohamad Kassim said it had prepared four buses for Najib and his delegation.

She added that she was glad Najib had expressed an interest in riding one of its buses. "This shows that even the prime minister is willing to take public transport.

"He and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam will pay for their tickets to ride on the bus."
