DUNGUN: A total of 300 turtle hatchlings were released into the sea at Kuala Abang, here, by the Turtle and Marine Ecosystem Centre (Tumec) and Association of 1Malaysia Turtle Lovers (Citra Malaysia) on Friday night.

Tumec chief Syed Abdullah Syed Abdul Kadir said the programme to release the hatchlings was Tumec's and Citra's effort to boost awareness on the importance of turtle conservation in the country.

"Tumec is busy formulating a programme to simultaneously release turtle hatchlings in Malaysia on June 16 next year in conjunction with the World Turtle Day.

"We are discussing with Fisheries Departments at state levels to finalise important details like the number of hatchlings and the locations of their release."
