    EMPOWERING: Portfolio revisions normal

ALOR STAR: TWO rebellious Pas Kedah leaders -- Datuk Phahrolrazi Zawawi and Dr Ismail Salleh -- were reappointed as Kedah state executive councillors yesterday with slight changes in their portfolios.

The duo, when their yearly term of office expired last month, had refused to be reappointed citing differences with Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak.

However, they changed their minds -- following a directive by the Pas central working committee that they be reappointed.

Phahrolrazi, a two-term Pengkalan Kundor assemblyman had previously held the Public Works, Rural Development, Housing and Local Government portfolio. He now holds the Housing and Local Government, Water Supply and Energy Resources portfolio.

Dr Ismail, a first term Alor Mengkudu assemblyman, was previously in charge of the Health, Non-Government Affairs (NGO), Communication, Science, Technology and Innovation portfolio. He now takes charge of the NGO, Science and Innovation, Information Technology and Communications portfolio.

They received their letters of appointment yesterday as Kedah executive council members from the chairman of the Regency Council, Datuk Seri Tunku Annuar Sultan Badlishah, at Istana Anak Bukit, near here.

Phahrolrazi claimed that all misunderstandings and differences with Azizan had been solved.

On the change of portfolio, Phahrolrazi said it was not related to his previous "misunderstandings" with Azizan.

"Changes in portfolio are normal. It was done to strengthen the team and to focus on the next general election."

Azizan said the portfolios given to Phahrolrazi and Dr Ismail, both of whom he described as his "generals", may seem small but their responsibilities were huge and important.

"There is no question as to who is more senior as changes in portfolio can be made at any time depending on the need."

Admitting that there were differences previously, Azizan said it had all been resolved.

"Our main focus is now on the general election.

"I assure you that all problems have been solved."
