Johor DAP chief rapped 'for being racist'

JOHOR BARU: Dr Boo Cheng Hau, the Johor DAP chief who has often been at odds with his Pakatan Rakyat colleagues, yesterday encountered a new critic who has branded him a "racist".

DAP Taman Saga branch chairman V. Thulasi Das rallied a few followers to protest outside Dr Boo's office yesterday.

He wore a DAP badge, which bore the party's rocket insignia upside down to symbolise his denouncement of the party.

Thulasi went a step further by declaring his support for Barisan Nasional for its efforts to help the needy, and mentioned Bukit Permai assemblyman Kamarulzaman Ali whom he described as being very helpful.

"Dr Boo has never wanted to help the Indians, but only the Chinese. Since last year, I told myself I had enough of his leadership.

"Whenever I referred a problem concerning the Chinese community, he would help immediately.

"But if I brought people from the Indian community to seek help, he would complain about why the Indians had so many problems. He would not offer any help."

Thulasi also alleged that Dr Boo had "arrogantly" proclaimed that he had enough support from the Chinese community and that he did not need even one vote from the Indians.

He also said that the DAP top brass had advised him to "compromise" with Dr Boo.

"When I forwarded the matter, the party leadership advised me to be more understanding towards Dr Boo.

"All I had wanted was for him to help everyone regardless of their race. I have been with DAP for six years and I am very disappointed.

The DAP life member alleged that Dr Boo was not always at his office in Taman Orkid, but elsewhere to attend to the needs of others rather than the people in his own constituency.

"There was flooding in Kampung Laut nearby, but he was not here. Instead, he chose to be in Tenang to meet the flood victims there sometime ago.

"It is even difficult to get him on the phone," said Thulasi, adding that he was planning to hold a bigger rally against Dr Boo soon.

"I only managed to gather a few for the run-up to the gathering. But the number is growing. Just wait and see."

In an immediate response, Dr Boo refuted the allegations by Thulasi as "lies" and that he had not heard from him for quite sometime.

"I am not sure what is his problem with me. But I can tell you that what he had said are all bohong (lies)."

On allegations that he was a racist, Dr Boo said he had visited an Indian in Taman Pulai Indah last Friday who had lost his right leg in an accident to show his concern for the community. By Syed Umar Ariff
