Kebenaran's backing of BN 'bodes well for democracy'
KOTA KINABALU: The newly established Parti Kebenaran Sabah's (Kebenaran) pledge of support for Barisan Nasional in the next general election is a good indication of the practice of democracy, said Sabah BN treasurer Datuk Hajiji Noor.
"It is good that they assist BN. This proves our country practises democracy, which gives the people a chance to voice their thoughts and participate in our nation's politics.
"What is important is we are all responsible in maintaining the peace and harmony among the multicultural population," said Hajiji, who is state Local Government and Housing Minister.
He said this to reporters after presenting appointment letters to Sabah Native Affairs Council (SNAC) members here, yesterday.
Hajiji was reacting to a statement by Kebenaran, whose registration was recently approved, that they were not an opposition party but would help BN in the general election.
During the party's launching in Sandakan, its Sandakan chief Datu Omar Ali Datu Bachtiyal, said Kebenaran's main goal and purpose was to serve as a catalyst to United Suluk Community Organisation (Usco) in upholding their principle of improving the socio-economic status of Suluks in the state.
Datu Omar said Kebenaran and Usco's leadership stood strong behind BN, especially Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman. The party's president is Bentan Alamin who is also Usco president, and the party membership was reported to be about 3,000.
