'Most of BN's pledges fulfilled'

WALKING THE TALK: Coalition committed to delivering on election promises, says Zahid

JOHOR BARU : BARISAN Nasional's implementation rate for its election manifestos since the first general election in 1959 is 87 per cent, a study  revealed.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this meant the coalition had fulfilled most of its pledges to the country and people over the years.

He said the study, which he conducted recently, also showed that BN "walked the talk", as evidenced by the country's development in the last 55 years.

This meant the coalition had kept most of its promises, he added.

"This is what BN's Janji Ditepati stands for: promises fulfilled.

"We are committed to ensuring the pledges in the manifestos are fulfilled.

"The opposition, on the other hand, has only a 15 per cent implementation rate for its promises since the 2008 polls.

"It is only good at making promises."

He said that while Umno had weaknesses, it would strive to honour all its promises

He said this after opening the Pulai Umno division annual delegates' meeting here yesterday. Present was division chief Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

Zahid, who is also defence minister, said the opposition pact was a marriage of convenience, with the components singing a different tune every time.

"How can they become one when DAP sings like the Chinese opera, PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) stages its bangsawan (Malay theatre) play and Pas its tarian gelek gurun pasir (desert belly dance), exploiting religion for political mileage?"

Zahid said Pas' aim to set up an Islamic state and implement hudud was criticised and opposed by its allies, especially DAP.

"See what is happening in Penang? DAP wants to monopolise the seats contested by the opposition pact in the next general election. This shows the party is power crazy."
