KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) does not make empty promises like the opposition. Instead, it continuously provides the necessary services for the benefit and well-being of the people at all times, said Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin.
"We give service to the people, no matter when and where. We do not make promises we can't keep, like the opposition, to garner votes," he said in his speech at the "Program Mesra Rakyat 1Malaysia" at SJK (T) Jalan Bangsar, here, yesterday.
More than 500 people from the Indian community turned up to sort out problems faced by them.
This included problems such as not having birth certificates, identification cards, citizenship, jobs and marriage certificates. Many also sought advice on debt problems.
The one-day event was organised for the Lembah Pantai constituency in collaboration with the Special Implementation Taskforce for the Indian Community, MIC and the Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency, better known as AKPK.
Raja Nong Chik said there were plans to hold similar events in future in other places around the city.
"Now is the time to engage the community and implement programmes to overcome their problems."
He said that although the solutions for problems sought by the people might not be known immediately, it would become apparent in the long run.
Present at the event yesterday were Lembah Pantai MIC chairman Datuk Narayanan Ratnam and AKPK chief executive officer Koid Swee Lian.
