PKR hides faults of its leaders, says former aide

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Keadilan Rakyat secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution should not demand for an explanation from Datuk Seri Awang Adek Hussin on allegations of corruption when the opposition did not appear to be practising what it preaches.

Former special political aide to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Annuar Ashari, said PKR suffered from a "denial syndrome", which caused the members to hide the faults of their leaders while drumming up allegations against Barisan Nasional leaders.

"Saifuddin has, on many occasions, failed to respond to various issues relating to his party."

Annuar questioned the reason for PKR's silence on Datuk S. Nallakaruppan's allegations of impropriety between Anwar, who is the opposition's de facto leader, and the wife of PKR's deputy president.

"Nalla has made a video containing what he claimed to be the proof of his allegation. PKR has never come up with any official statement to deny or urge Anwar to come clean about it."

At the same time, Annuar said PKR had failed to state their position on whether a bisexual person could become a prime minister and a leader of the opposition coalition.

"I also want to seek an explanation from PKR why party president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on why she did not want to come out publicly to deny these allegations."

Annuar said Saifuddin was also unable to give an explanation concerning the support letter which he issued on the Selangor sand scandal.

"He is definitely not in the position to demand for an explanation from other people."
