Proveclaims not true, PKR told

KUALA LUMPUR: Deny claims that opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim allegedly had an affair with a certain individual with facts and evidence, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leaders were urged by a non governmental organisation yesterday.

Jaringan Melayu Malaysia national director Noraini Abdul Khalil Saferi said Anwar's wife PKR president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, his daughter PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar and the individual at the centre of the allegation should call a joint press conference to clarify the issue.

"They must prove that the claims are baseless, then we will be satisfied," Noraini said.

"If Dr Wan Azizah, as a political leader, is not brave enough to speak up, how fit is she to lead?"

Noraini said the trio -- Dr Wan Azizah, Nurul Izzah and the individual -- should also comment on Senator Datuk S. Nallakaruppan's claims that Anwar was allegedly bisexual.

"Keeping quiet would only result in the public assuming the rumours were true," Noraini said, adding that the trio should address all the allegations to prevent society from having a distorted view of the whole party.

However if the accusations were true, Noraini said Anwar should admit them, openly apologise and relinquish his political post.
