REACTION: 5,000 to show loyalty to Johor ruler

JOHOR BARU: IN support of the Johor Sultan, as well as the country's royal institution, about 5,000 people are expected to take part in a gathering to show their loyalty.

Called Himpunan Menjunjung Taat Setia (Gathering to uphold loyalty), the event will take place next Sunday (June 10) at the Istana Pasir Pelangi grounds at 12pm.

Coordinated by Johor Umno Youth, the event will also include members of Barisan Nasional component parties and 300 non-governmental organisations.

Johor Umno Youth chief Mohd Fadil Muskon said the gathering was mooted based on feedback from many Johoreans who supported the state's ruler, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.

"This follows the recent allegations by Perak PAS deputy commissioner Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin who criticised the ruler's successful RM520,000 bid for the WWW1 vehicle registration number which we view as an insult to the Johor Sultan and the Malaysian royal institution," he said here yesterday.

Fadil said the gathering was open to people of all ages, races and even political backgrounds, especially fellow Johoreans who live in other states.

He said the gathering, which would take about two hours, was a commitment by Johoreans to show that they were behind their sultan.

Fadil said the gathering had police permission. It was granted by the state police contingent headquarters.

"Today, I urge all Johoreans and those who are in support of the country's monarchy to show their support for the event next week.

"As most of us know, Sultan Ibrahim is a caring ruler who makes it a point to look into the welfare of his subjects through the Kembara Mahkota expeditions and other social programmes."
