The Hulu Terengganu Umno division head said members must continue to be dedicated and committed in supporting the party to ensure success.   

“I hope members  today will take this  bai’ah (oath of allegiance) to not sabotage the party,” said Komalrudin when debating the motion on religion, education and social matters.

Komalrudin also urged Umno members in opposition-ruled states  — Kedah, Penang, Kelantan and Selangor  —  to follow the example set by Terengganu Umno, which managed to wrest the state back from Pas in the 2004 general election.

Meanwhile, Puteri Umno representative Dayang Maimunah Sidek urged the government not to be too harsh with National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan defaulters.

“Blacklisting and barring loan defaulters from travelling abroad is outrageous and inhumane.”

She also said  graduates had problems obtaining the reduction in service charge for the loan from three to one per cent and this was making the youth  upset.

“On behalf of Puteri, I would like to recommend  to the government to set up centres handling PTPTN loans in every state. Perhaps, we can deduct the loan from their salaries with the help of these agencies

so that it would be easier for
them to pay back.”

Perak representative Mohamad Anuar Arrifin said amending section 15 of the Universities and University Colleges Act  1971 would attract more young voters to join Umno.

“I have received several SMSes from university students asking me to deliver this important message to the president. They want the law to be changed immediately,” said the Larut division head.

Negri Sembilan representative Mustapha Nagoor brought up   problems faced by teachers   on early retirement.

He said there were teachers who wanted to opt for this scheme but the application process was tedious at the moment.
