Wings' leaders pledge to keep Putrajaya under BN
KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita Umno, Youth and Puteri leaders yesterday pledged that they will defend Putrajaya at all costs from falling into the hands of the opposition.
In her winding-up speech, Wanita chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said her wing members were committed to ensure that Umno and Barisan Nasional remained in power so that all the plans meant for the people could be implemented.
Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and Puteri chief Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin also reminded their respective wing members to work hard during the next general election.
Shahrizat said Wanita women would never waver in the face of the party's political challenges, including the general election.
"(Party president) Datuk Seri Najib Razak's speech has motivated us to go to the ground, touch base with the people and achieve a landslide victory in the coming general election."
She said Wanita's Jalinan Rakyat and Skuad Sayang programmes would continue to be carried out in all the branches nationwide.
Khairy said Umno should continue to transform.
To engage the youth, he said, Umno and BN, via the government's transformation programmes, had introduced a slew of initiatives to address the people's concerns which included special housing schemes and job opportunities.
Khairy also noted that the 1Malaysia housing scheme and the introduction of minimum wages for workers had benefited the people.
"They (the youths) are also concerned about liberties, which we have been addressing through ongoing amendments to old laws."
Rosnah said more activities to attract young people would be lined up while winnable candidates would get support from Puteri members. She also said promises made to the rakyat would be fulfilled.
