SANTUBONG: The late Tan Sri Adenan Satem had brought about many changes to Sarawak, enabling it to prosper during his time as the its chief minister.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the principles and policies introduced by the Sarawak administration, led by Adenan, resonated well among Sarawakians.
He said the love and admiration the people had for Adenan was evident in last year's state election, which concluded with Sarawak Barisan Nasional garnering a landslide victory.
"I had personally known Adenan for many years.
"He was not only a leader of caliber but also a good friend..a loyal friend of mine.
"I will always remember his achievements, which will remain close to my heart," said Najib when met at the chief minister's official residence in Damai Jaya here tonight.
Najib, who was accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, earlier arrived in Kuching to pay their last respect to Adenan, who was Sarawak's fifth chief minister.
The prime minister and his wife spent more than 30 minutes consoling and extending emotional support to Adenan's widow Puan Sri Jamilah Anu and the couple's children.
Also with Najib was Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
Other leaders from the Federal Cabinet at the residence included two Ministers in the Prime Minister Department - Datuk Seri Shahidan Kasim and Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri; International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed; Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof; Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim; and Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
Also present were Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, and Permodalan Nasional Bhd chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar.
Adenan had succumbed to heart complications at the Kota Samarahan Heart Centre yesterday afternoon. He would have turned 73 on Jan 27.
