KENINGAU: A policeman died on the scene and his father, seriously injured, in a road accident at Mile 19, Jalan Keningau-Sook here, yesterday.
Corporal Muhammad Firdaus Jaimun, 34, who was behind the wheels of a Perodua Myvi, was killed following a collision with an oncoming Toyota Land Cruiser at 3.20pm.
The 35-year-old driver of the Land Cruiser did not sustain injuries.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Jawila said both drivers were not suspected to be under any alcohol influence.
“The road condition was good and weather was clear during the incident. The Land Cruiser was coming from Nabawan/Sook towards Keningau while the Myvi was coming from Keningau towards Sook/Nabawan.
“Both vehicles crashed into each other after passing through a corner.
“Investigations will be continued to identify the cause behind the accident,” he said in a statement.
The remains of the deceased who was a Keningau native and served at the Sabah police contingent headquarters in Kota Kinabalu was brought to Keningau district hospital for a post-mortem while his 70-year-old father who sat at the front passenger seat, was also sent to the hospital for treatment.
