7 Nigerians held over immigration offences

MELAKA : A Nigerian man slid down a sewerage pipe from the fifth floor of a flat here and fled from raiding Immigration officers who arrested seven Nigerian men for various offences overnight.

The foreigner was with three of his countrymen and a Filipino woman at a unit of the flat in Taman Pelangi, Ayer Keroh, said Melaka Immigration director Kamalludin Ismail today.    

The trio and the Filipina were arrested after they were found hiding in the ceiling and toilet of the unit, he told reporters.    

He also said that three other Nigerian men and two Malaysian women were arrested at two other units.    

One Nigerian man was also arrested at a restaurant in Kota Laksamana here in the operation conducted from 10.30 pm yesterday to 2 am today, he added.  

Kamalludin said they were arrested for various immigration-related offences,such as having no valid entry document, overstaying, having false documents and sheltering individuals in violation of immigration rules.-- BERNAMA
