BENEFITS: Socso increased payments

WE refer to the letter “No revision in six years” (NST, April 23) from Lim Theam Chye. The Social Security Organisation (Socso) had made prompt monthly payments to Lim since 2001 as follows:

SINCE  February 2001:  RM826.04;

SINCE January 2006:      RM855.78 (an increase of 3.6 per cent);

SINCE January 2008:   RM943.07 (an increase of 10.2 per cent); and

SINCE January 2011 to date:    RM974.19 (an increase of 3.3 per cent)

The  benefits had been  increased  by  3.6 per cent in 2006, 10.2 per cent in 2008 and 3.3 per cent last year. The arrears payment for the latest enhancement (January 2011 to March 31) amounting to RM466.80 was credited to Lim’s bank account on  April 10.

 Regular increases were done on the findings of joint actuarial studies by Socso and the International Labour Organisation.  Thus, the allegation made by Lim is baseless. Socso and the government care for such insured persons.
