MY FRIEND lives in an exclusive neighbourhood in Puchong and it happened that the streetlights failed. He called the Tenaga Nasional Bhd hotline to complain. A few days passed but nothing happened. So he called again, this time he was asked if "tiang lampu di kawasan encik adalah tiang besi atau tiang batu?"
Rather puzzled, he replied that it was "tiang besi".
The woman then replied that the TNB-appointed contractor had visited the area but did not carry out remedial action as the contractor handled only tiang batu.
She said that tiang besi was under the jurisdiction of the Subang Jaya Municipal Council. Not knowing who or where to call, my friend just accepted the situation. Thankfully, power has since been restored and the streetlights are working.
What made him and me wonder is why the public is being made to suffer a ridiculous bureaucratic arrangement. Before that, we had to endure a period of non-collection of refuse.
There is another issue that has the residents of Puchong Jaya frustrated and worked up. There is plenty of development in the area and the gridlock is driving everyone up the wall.
