FELDA: Settlers' windfall is well deserved

KUDOS to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for announcing a windfall to the 112,635 Felda settlers, their families as well as the staff of the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda).

This payment is in recognition of the settlers' hard work of toiling the land for the past 56 years.

The windfall involves RM1.689 billion to be distributed to 112,635 settlers in conjunction with the listing of Felda Global Ventures Holdings (FGVH) on the Bursa Saham main board on June 25, possibly making it Asia's largest initial public offering this year.

Najib said the windfall would be paid out in three stages, with the first RM5,000 for the head of the family, stage two of RM5,000 for the wife of the settler and stage three amounting to RM5,000 for the second generation of settlers.

Making the announcement at Felda Jengka 8, Najib said Felda was now entering a new transformation following the listing of FGVH.

He also announced a bonus of 21/2-month salary for Felda officers and staff.

He announced another three incentives: a trust fund, the "blue form" for FGVH shares for the settlers and additional aid for the Felda Foundation fund to repair old and traditional villages in Felda areas. This will improve the lives of the settlers.

Felda settlers are ecstatic after receiving news of their ‘durian runtuh’ from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in Felda Jengka 8 in Jerantut, Pahang, on Tuesday.
