MALAYSIA Airlines' (MAS) passengers on flight MH181 from Chennai to Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Sunday had a harrowing experience when the aircraft suddenly dropped 9,000 metres beacuse of a drop in cabin pressure.
One of my relatives was a passenger and feared the worst as more than 120 passengers began saying their prayers.
Luckily, the combined prayers of the passengers, which included special envoy to India and South Asia Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, and the pilot's skill, managed to land the plane safely at the Bayan Lepas International Airport in Penang.
Some of the passengers had difficulty in using the emergency masks on board as they were not functioning properly. This created panic. MAS must review its maintenance system.
It cannot afford to lose this profitable route to Chennai.
