HEALTH: Beware of food, utensils coated in wax
DO you know how much wax there is in your body?
We are consuming foods like prepacked cup noodles, instant noodles, fruits and vegetables that have been coated with a layer of wax; hot beverages served in wax-coated paper cups and bowls at eateries and fast food restaurants.
Do you know that wax is used to coat foods, fruits and vegetables?
Do you know that it is impossible for our digestive system to digest wax quickly?
The wax used on food, fruits and vegetables is the same as that used to shine floors, furniture, shoes and vehicles, and is derived mainly from petroleum and palm oil.
However, only mere traces of wax is ingested each time you eat out, but in the long term, it will accumulate to a dangerous level and remain inside our intestines.
So, over time, we will have quite a lot of wax inside our body, which is detrimental to health.
These days, people eat a lot of instant noodles, as it is simple to prepare.
Malaysia is a big consumer of prepacked cup noodles and instant noodles.
Of course, most people are unaware of what they are actually eating these days whenever they eat out.
The bottom line is that in the long run, people will get intestinal tract complications or disorders as they grow older, de- pending on how much wax there is inside the body.
We should, therefore, try to reduce the consumption of food, fruits and vegetables that have been coated with wax.
These include waxed duck and sausages.
Also, try not to take hot drinks and hot food served in waxed paper cups, bowls and plates.
