EVERY year on a particular day, and several days before and after it, the media in Malaysia and the world will splash news items to celebrate Mothers Day.
Do we realise there are children among us who never knew their mothers because fate took them away when they were just too little to know?
Do we care to think what and how these children feel when there is a celebration of Mothers Day, and other children are celebrating it, urged on by the media, too.
And, there are grown ups, too, who have grown up without mothers. They, too, have feelings when Mothers Day is celebrated.
Also, we can imagine class-room situations when children are asked like, "How did you celebrate Mothers Day? Let us hear everybody's story." And, insensitively, the teachers may not know some of the children in their class never saw their mothers. So, why don't we stop all these Mothers or Fathers Day celebrations.
We do not need these days. For those who have mothers or fathers, they should know how to appreciate their parents without the media having to urge them on, or a day to celebrate parents.
Never mind about the rest of the world. We do not need to pick up every fad that other parts of the world churn out.
We can have Teachers Day, as I think all children have teachers. We can even have Gardeners Day, for those who have gardeners.
Be careful of the feelings of the unfortunates, even if they are a small minority.
