PETROL PRICE: Readjusting price of RON 95 would benefit more motorists

IAM sure motorists who use the more expensive RON 97 are happy and thankful the government readjusted the price of the premium petrol from RM2.90 to RM2.80 per litre effective last Thursday ("RON 97 cheaper by 10 sen" -- NST, June 7).

The retail price per litre had been RM2.90 since April 4 this year. It was RM2.80 per litre before that in June last year.

It was RM2.40 a litre in January last year. And now, it is back to RM2.80 per litre.

The government should also reduce the subsidised retail price of RON 95 and diesel by the same quantum as the majority of motorists using this type of fuel are middle- and low-income earners.

It would be a great help to these motorists if the government reduced the price of RON 95.

They would be grateful for the gesture. RON 95 has not seen any reduction since its retail price of RM1.85 per litre was raised to RM1.90 a litre in December 2010.
