ROAD BARRIERS: Concrete slabs are better

I REFER to the report on collapsible plastic poles being crushed and flattened by impatient drivers, particularly heavy vehicle drivers, near SMK Teluk Ayer Tawar and SJK (C) Aik Keow in Jalan Teluk Ayer Tawar, Butterworth ("No barrier to impatient drivers" -- NST, July 23).

These traffic poles are put up by the authorities to serve as barriers so that motorists do not cross the divider. However, these poles are often run over and damaged by impatient drivers. This happens on roads with heavy traffic.

One pole cost RM80 four years ago. It could cost more today.

I suggest that concrete dividers or concrete slabs be installed instead to address this problem.
