GEORGE TOWN: Police have identified the motorcyclist who caused the death of a 60-year-old woman during a snatch theft on Tuesday.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Gan Kong Meng said a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage had captured the incident which undermined public safety in the Rifle Range Flats here.

"We are fine-tuning the image while enlarging the footage to get a clearer picture of the suspect," Gan said.

investigations showed that the motorcyclist had acted alone at the Block J of the densely-populated flats which led Tan Kim Chuan to sustain head injuries.

The CCTV footage showed the motorcyclist snatching Tan's handbag from behind causing the woman to lose her balance and fall.

Tan succumbed to her injuries without regaining consciousness nine hours later at Penang Hospital. The victim, a widow, had moved into the Rifle Range flats two weeks ago. It was reported that the footage also revealed that 10 people walked past her but did nothing as she lay unconscious for about seven minutes.
