LATEST TRENDS: The 13th International Architecture, Interior Design and Building Exhibition, Malaysia opens its doors

The highly anticipated ARCHIDEX 2012 representing the 13th International Architecture, Interior Design and Building Exhibition, Malaysia will open its doors at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 4 to 7 July.

Looked upon as an award-winning international platform for architects, interior designers and building professionals to congregate, meet and source for the latest products, this year’s ARCHIDEX will also co-locate with a new exhibition in the 1st Malaysia Eco Building and Design Exhibition, ECO-B.

“Sustainable design is the often-repeated and latest mantra in the built environment today; one that ‘meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.’

“At ECO-B, new products and services prove that sustainability and eco-products are not merely wishful thinking but a reality sweeping across the Asian society. It will reveal products that are sustainable, aesthetically appealing and fulfilling today’s needs; all while delivering a better tomorrow,” says Vincent Lim, president of C.I.S Network Sdn Bhd, co-organiser for both ARCHIDEX and ECO-B.

ARCHIDEX is jointly organized by the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) and C.I.S Network Sdn Bhd. Last year, it was bestowed the “Industry Excellence” and “Best Trade Exhibition” by the Malaysian Association of Convention
and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (MACEOS).

Held in conjunction with PAM’s Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival (KLAF) 2012, this is the region’s annual must-attend platform covering exhibitions, business gatherings, industry meetings, conferences and forums, gala and awards related to the built and design industry. Four international concurrent conferences and forums that are related to the building and design industry further make this an event not to be missed.

“It is the opportune time for industry professionals to keep abreast of the (latest) developments in the built environment, while they mingle and network with captains of industries, besides sourcing for innovative products, designs and services,” adds Lim, urging related industry professionals and members of the public to make their way to the four-day trade exhibition.

PAM President Ar. Haji Saifuddin Ahmad, applauding the new introduction of eco-friendly products known as ECO-B exhibits agreed, adding that other highlights of KLAF as in the Kuala Lumpur Design Forum (KLDF) and DATUM: KL 2012 will also draw in the large crowds.

“KLAF was introduced last year in a month-long celebration that will be organised again for the second time this year. Besides KLDF taking place on 5 July revolving on the theme ‘About Making’ elaborating on the design process, there’s also the concurrent conference on DATUM: KL 2012 representing the International Architectural

Design Conference in which we’ve managed to get very good speakers who are architects from around the world to speak specifically on the theme ‘Roots’ on 6 and 7 July”.

“Architects should not miss this event. It’s the same thing for the KLDF in which we’re getting good speakers.”

ARCHIDEX and ECO-B will cover an exhibition floor space of approximately 193,750 sq ft with 1,100 booths in eight halls represented by over 430 companies from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia.

This year, in recognition of outstanding exhibits in the form of revolutionary products, ARCHIDEX will be awarding the New Product Award and the Green New Product Awards respectively from the pool of 56 products being nominated by 38 companies vying for the awards. All the nominated products will be showcased by the exhibitors and will be evaluated by a panel of judges during the exhibition.

Meanwhile, the Tropical Subtropical Green Building Alliance Conference (TSGBA) 2012 that will run from 4 to 5 July will concentrate on the theme “Naturally Tropical, Truly Innovative”. This will be held alongside the Green Building Forum (GBF) 2012.

Other events held alongside ARCHIDEX 2012 and ECO-B are the Designers’ Day to be held on 5 July and Architects’ Day on the following day, the Building Industry Gala Night (BIG Nite), Green Biz @ ARCHIDEX and the Architectural Tours.

The four international conferences and forums will feature over 20 renowned speakers from 11 countries. Registration for DATUM:KL 2012 and KLDF can be made online at www.pam.org.my
