The award ceremony, held for the first time in Kuala Lumpur, wowed all who attended, many of whom are top guns in the industry

With the top personalities in the property industry from Asia Pacific gracing the black tie event, the Asia Pacific Property Awards was a glittering event that left all the award winners justifiably proud of themselves. Having reached this far, they were all ready for a good time and despi- te some not winning the top awards that allow them to represent their respective countries, all had a good time mingling among themselves at the ballroom of JW Marriott Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

This year was a record year for the Asia Pacific region as it has surpassed all other regions by producing a record number of entries from 17 different countries all vying to be declared top in their fields. Entries were received from Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indo- nesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea,Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and of course Malaysia.

Most of the winning entries came from Australia, China, India, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia, although it has to be mentioned that LLP “Khan Shatyr” from Kazakhstan won the Best Mixed- use Architecture award.

Another notable feature is that this is the first time that the awards ceremony was conducted in Kuala Lumpur. In fact, President and Founder of the Interna- tional Property Awards, Stuart Shield mentioned that they are looking to find a permanent base in Asia with Kuala Lumpur being their top choice. “We are looking to find a permanent home base in Asia, and are seriously looking at KL.”

Shield added that Asia Pacific has always put up a very strong representation across the many different cate- gories within the awards’ programme. “Asia Pacific consistently proves to be the hardest region to beat when it comes to competing internationally for the highly coveted World’s Best awards.”

The Asia Pacific Property Awards in association with HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad and the Royal Institute of Char- tered Surveyors Asia, combined with the
other regional awards’ programmes for Arabia, Europe, Africa and the Americas, form the globally renowned Internatio- nal Property Awards. Now entering their 19th year, they are the world’s most prestigious property competition and cover residential as well as commercial categories.

Stay tuned next week for more stories on the award winners.
