Yap: Control house prices

REASONABLE: Datuk Yap Pian Hon, President, Confederation of Associations, Serdang says house prices should be controlled.

• The government should come up with tighter fiscal policies and guidelines to prevent excessive property speculation. State governments should set aside state lands for public housing schemes with reasonable housing prices so as to curb price hikes.

• House prices must be controlled to a reasonable level so that the low-income group is able to own affordable houses, achieving the target of house ownership policy. I urge the Selangor Pakatan Government to repeal the policy of imposing the Development Charge Rules 2010 (Kaedah-kaedah Caj Pemajuan 2010) of 30 per cent within all municipal councils and 20 per cent in district councils to curb housing price hikes.

• It is hoped that the Master Development Plan for 452 New Villages in Peninsular Malaysia is implemented accordingly to uplift the standards of living amongst its 1.8-million population.

• I wish for better control of prices of essential goods and services to reduce the burden on the low-income group.
