BADMINTON: Once again, China make clean sweep
MAKING a sweep of titles is becoming a habit with China who were peerless in the China Masters Super Series in Changzhou yesterday.
China, fresh from dominating badminton in the London Olympics, could have only been stopped in the men's singles by Hu Yun of Hong Kong and Japan's men's doubles Hiroyuki Endo-Kenichi Hayakawa, but they faltered.
Chen Long outclassed Hu Yun 21-11, 21-13 to retain his title, while Chai Biao-Zhang Nan, resuming their partnership after almost four years, outplayed top-seeds Hiroyuki-Kenichi 21-18, 21-17 to take the men's doubles crown.
There was some consolation for Wang Yihan, who lost to compatriot Li Xuerui in the Olympic final, when she defeated teammate Jiang Yanjiao 21-18, 21-14 for the women's singles crown.
The women's doubles and mixed doubles were also all-China affairs.
Bao Yixin-Zhong Qianxin defeated Cheng Shu-Luo Yu 21-12, 21-15 in the women's doubles final while Xu Chen-Ma Jin beat Qiu Zihan-Tang Jinhua 14-21, 21-11, 21-10 in the mixed doubles final.
