Joo Ven and June Wei in third round

SIXTH seed Soong Joo Ven and unseeded Cheam June Wei cruised into the boys' singles third round of the Asian Junior Badminton Championships in Gimcheon, South Korea yesterday.

Joo Ven, who played a pivotal role in Malaysia's bronze medal effort in the mixed team, defeated Nepal's Dipesh Dhami 21-11, 21-14 while June Wei upset India's Joshi Pratul 18-21, 21-18, 21-19.

Joo Ven and June Wei, who received first-round byes, will face South Korea's Kim Dong Joo and Singapore's Bernard Ong, today.

Compatriots Tan Kian Meng and Lim Chiew Sien lost in the second round.

In girls' singles, S. Kisona joined eighth seed Lim Yin Fun, who received a first round bye, in the second round after edging Indonesia's Ruselly Hartawan 21-18, 21-23, 21-15.

Lim Chiew Sien and Lee Ying Ying, were, however, eliminated. By Ajitpal Singh
