MALAYSIA began their campaign in the Thomas Cup with a crushing 5-0 victory over South Africa in Group C to confirm their ticket to the quarter-finals at the Wuhan Sports Centre yesterday.

Malaysia fielded, as promised,  their best line-up as  Lee Chong Wei played at half pace to secure a 21-3, 21-10 win over Jacob Malieka.

Liew Daren defeated Wilen Viljoen 21-11, 21-9 while a sick Hafiz Hashim beat Prakash Vijayanath 21-10, 21-8 to give Malaysia an unassailable 3-0 lead.

Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong made short work of Dorian James-Viljoen for a 21-8, 21-12 win while Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah defeated Malieka-Prakash 21-11, 21-14.

Chong Wei said his main intention was to get adjusted to the draught in the stadium.

"It was an easy match as our opponents were not strong but it was a good warm-up. This was the first time I   played in this stadium with the air conditioned switched  and I adapted to the draught," said Chong Wei.

"We have got an idea on how to adjust our strokes and it will be handy against Denmark tomorrow (today)."

The group stage will come to a conclusion today and the draw for the knockout stage will also be conducted after  all the matches are completed.
