Timid exit for Peng Soon-Liu Ying

MIXED doubles Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying's push for their first super series title ended at the semi-final stage of the Singapore Open yesterday.

Peng Soon-Liu Ying, the World No 8, were a spent force against Taiwan's Cheng Hung Ling-Cheng Wen Hsing and suffered a 21-16, 21-13 defeat in just 30 minutes.

Despite their exit, Peng Soon-Liu Ying will achieve a  ranking of seven, their highest, next week.

In the men's singles, Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand advanced to the final after beating Vietnam's Nguyen Tien Minh 21-12, 18-21, 21-19 and will meet Wang Zhengming of China, who beat Denmark's Viktor Axelsen 21-13, 21-14, today.

Doubles: Bao Yixin-Zhong Qianxin (Chn) bt Miyuki Maeda-Satoko Suetsuna (Jpn) 21-15, 21-8; Cheng Wen Hsing-Chien Yu Chin (Tai) bt Meiliana Jauhari-Greysia Polii 21-13, 19-21, 21-16.

Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying (right) will be ranked seventh in the world next week.
