CRICKET: Second win for Malaysia

MALAYSIA continued their fine showing in the ACC Under-16 Elite Cup with a second consecutive win after beating Bahrain by 43 runs in a Group B match at the Kinrara Oval yesterday.

Rain in the morning reduced the match to 36 overs as Malaysia reached 149-8 with captain D. Thejas Rajah top scoring for the second consecutive match with 49 runs.

Bahrain were bowled out for 106 with a ball to spare as the hosts moved closer to sealing a place in the semi-finals ahead of a clash against Kuwait tomorrow at the Bayuemas Oval in Klang.

Iran rebounded from a defeat to Malaysia on Friday by upsetting Kuwait by five wickets in another Group B match affected by rain at Bayuemas.

Defending champions Singapore suffered the ignominy of losing their opening match to Thailand by nine runs in Georgetown when the faltered in chasing a target of 91.

RESULTS -- Group A: Thailand bt Singapore by nine runs; Group B: Malaysia beat Bahrain by 43 runs, Iran beat Kuwait by five wickets.

TODAY -- Group A: Hong Kong v Thailand (Penang Sports Club); Group B: Bahrain v Nepal (Kinrara). By Devinder Singh
